Short CV: Zelalem B. Bogale is an award-winning aerospace engineer, data engineer, product manager and MBA holder based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He is a recipient of the SGAC African Space Leader Award (2023) for his pioneering work in Ethiopia’s space sector, including component design for the nation’s first hybrid rocket and creation of its original drone pilot certification curriculum. Zelalem has also published novel research papers in rocket propulsion and AOCS, where he won the ASI | Agenzia Spaziale Italiana Fellowship Award (2024) to present his findings at IAC 2024 in Milan, Italy. Zelalem currently serves as Lead Data Engineer at Hydrus AI where he builds predictive models, automates large-scale data pipelines, and creates dashboards that make data easy to understand and act on, and at the same time, Head of Business and Product at A2SV, driving tech entrepreneurship and youth empowerment. He previously worked as UAV/RPAS Engineer at Afrobots Engineering and as an Aerospace Engineer at Ethiopia’s Space Science and Geospatial Institute (SSGI). He has also represented Ethiopia at international workshops as a Systems Engineer in Stuttgart, Germany and actively contributes to scientific research, data engineering, and innovation throughout Africa.
